Introduction | Via Dinarica represents a concept that links and binds seven countries and territories with Dinaric Alps stretching through them, that is, stretching from Slovenia to northern Albania.
Via Dinarica also displays a pathway tailored for mountain hikers, cyclers and other adventurists who visit Dinarides merely as tourists, but it also stands as a platform purposed to develop and advance living conditions for local population living in these particular mountain areas. Via Dinarica pathway consists of three basic directions (corridors): Blue line which follows Adriatic Coast, thus linking and binding coastal chain of Dinaric mountains: White line comprising of High Dinarides and finally Green line of the inner Dinarides. 600 kilometers pathway stretches through Montenegro passing through three national parks, namely Durmitor, Biogradska Gora and Prokletije Mountains and continues towards Kosovo again through national park Bjeshket e Nemuna. Via Dinarica, going through Montenegro, most probably binds most beautiful mountain landscapes located in this particular territory, including national parks protected by the UNESCO world heritage programs, glacier lakes, pure rivers, all the way through to vast pasture fields and preserved rainforests and Prokletije Mountains themselves. While crossing over from Bosnia to Montenegro you shall enter the territory of Durmitor National Park which is listed on UNESCO list as natural and world heritage. Countless lakes and peaks providing a breathtaking lookout and overview shall leave absolutely everyone speechless. There is a town of Zabljak located in the heart of Durmitor National Park, which is positioned on 1456 meters altitude, making it thus most populated highest town in the Balkans. Zabljak offers miscellaneous tourist facilities as well. Furthermore, the pathway leads us over Sinjajevina mountain, including numerous pasture fields directed towards Biogradska gora, also a national park and Bjelasica mountain, which again consists of many beautiful glacier lakes. You can try many traditional dishes and local food in remote villages typical for this particular landscape. Pathway then leads to Prokletije Mountains through Komovi, yet another national park. Highest peak in Montenegro is on Prokletije Mountains (altitude 2535 meters). There are even over 50 mountain peaks over 2000 meters (altitude) and some 20 mountain peaks over 2500 meters (altitude). You could follow the pathway all the way or go through some of its parts. It is important that you carefully plan your trip and arrange accommodation in advance in both mountain lodges and countryside households along the pathway. |
